About the Trust.
Local residents have formed the Arkansas Valley Preservation Land Trust as a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation. The purpose of the AVPLT include: education on matters related to land use planning for conservation purposes; encouragement of sound conservation practices with respect to land and water resources in Otero County and the Lower Arkansas Valley; to preserve, protect and enhance the natural, scenic, recreational and productive values which our residents cherish.
The legacy we have inherited carries with it a responsibility of stewardship. This natural bounty belongs not just to us, but is a birthright of future generations.

The AVPLT has been designed as a bridge between the private and public sectors to accomplish preservation of the scenic lands, open space, agriculture lands, wildlife and waterfowl habitat, unique natural ecosystems, and historic and archaeological sites, which add so much to our rural way of life.
We gratefully acknowledge that the Arkansas Valley Preservation Land Trust was created with the assistance of a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado.
